FAQ
Is the PWC an in person full day program? YES.
The PWC follows a high school bell schedule. Expectations are that every student attend every day, all day, in person. However, Pathways meets students where they are, with what they can handle upon entry. Pathways then works with students and families to transition all students to a full day routine with the goal of returning to a more traditional education setting or transitioning to post secondary options. Does the PWC follow the Rockwood calendar? YES.
Can students apply to and start at Pathways anytime? YES.
The PWC accepts referrals throughout the calendar year, and students are able to join at any time of the school year. Based on the student's needs, the PWC staff work with the student and family to establish the most natural start date. However, due to different academic schedules, PWC students can only transition back to their high schools at semester breaks. For all transitions the students experience during their time at the PWC, staff work closely with students and families to make the next steps in their educational journeys as successful as possible.
Why would Pathways not be the best choice for my student?
Rockwood works tirelessly to provide every support for students. Sometimes, the resources available in our high schools include more specialized instruction and intensive supports than what may be available at the PWC. Academics at the PWC mostly involve on-line learning platforms; this type of educational option does not match with every student's learning profile and/or preference. Sometimes, the positives that students are experiencing at their high schools (like established relationships, sports/clubs/activities, proximity, transportation) are important factors in determining what option is best for a student's overall wellbeing. The Referral Team explores these questions with parents, students, and staff to assist in identifying best available supports at both the PWC and the home school.
What about Late Starts?
The PWC follows the Rockwood calendar; there are 8 Monday Late Starts throughout the year. The PWC will start one hour later than the usual start time; school will begin at 9:55 AM. Below, please note the Late Start dates.
August 26; September 23; October 14; December 2; January 27; February 24; March 24; April 21
What about meals?
At this time, the PWC receives daily breakfast and lunch items from Eureka High School that include a variety of cold and hot food items along with juices/milks. The student's already established lunch account will be accessed at the PWC, and additional funds to the account can be made as you have typically done. If you need assistance with your student's account, please contact any PWC member. If you are interested in applying for Free and Reduced meals, the links for English and Spanish are below. Please contact any PWC staff member if you need assistance or need a different translation.
